Wine-growing is an inherent part of the history, culture and lifestyle of this region of Malaga and the farmers continue to nurture the land using the traditional methods of their ancestors. The mountainside vineyards have gradients in excess of 30 degrees and a soil composed of decomposing slate, quartz and limestone. This demanding terrain is inaccessible by car so the vineyards require labour-intensive manual harvesting methods. Baking in the intense heat of the Andalucian summer the Alexandria Moscatel/Muscat grapes reach an optimum level of sweetness and acidity and produce some of the most delicious, naturally sweet wines in the world. The harvest takes place from mid-August through till October.
